About the Event
Come out to help us remove invasive plants from the Kern River. Without this work, the riparian habitat of the Kern River is at risk of being taken over by non-native plants, which has major implications for all native species and for recreational enjoyment of the river.
What the work will be like:
- Satisfying & visible progress in restoring a riverbank to its natural state
- Cutting and pulling out invasive plants (arrundo donax), using pruning shearts (provided) and digging tools
- There's a job for everyone, no matter the fitness level
Bring to the event:
- A friend or family member who would also like to help
- Love and pride in the Kern River
- Eagerness to learn more about native ecosystems and human impact on them
- Wear long pants, working shoes, a shirt that can get dirty, hat, sunglasses
- Your own sunscreen, water bottle
Tools, safety glasses, and gloves will be provided but you're more than welcome to bring your own if you have a preference in what you use.
